Unfortunately, rabies cases still occur among pets, especially among those that are both indoor and outdoor pets. The risk of a pet contracting rabies increases further if your yard is bordered by deep woods. Cats thoroughly enjoy venturing through deep woods to hunt and satiate their natural curiosity. This leaves them vulnerable to attacks by animals with rabies. Understanding what to look for will help you identify cat rabies symptoms. As soon as you identify rabies symptoms, you must do your best to quarantine the animal without coming in direct contact with it (try using a long pole, blanket and heavy clothing that covers your entire body). Quarantining the animal will help prevent anyone from being bitten by the cat, but this should only be a temporary solution. You should immediately call your local animal control services to have them come and take care of the infected cat.

One of the most common and obvious symptoms that you will be able to notice is a concentration of foam around the cat’s mouth. This is a sure sign of rabies and you should contact pet authorities immediately if you notice such foam. You will also most likely witness extreme changes in behavior in your cat. For example, they may express an unusually frequent penchant for biting and clawing. This may be a bit harder to identify since some cats are especially independent, so make sure you check for other symptoms to make sure you’ve accurately assessed the issue. Also, if your cat has rabies, then you will notice drunken qualities within your cat—they may seem off balance and spaced out.
